Everything that Jesus did as he walked the earth, he did as a man in total reliance upon the Holy Spirit. He walked on water, calmed storms, healed every disease, multiplied food, he even raised people from the dead. When Jesus left this earth, he promised to send the same Holy Spirit to us (John 14:15) to enable and empower us as mere mortal human men and women, to walk and live and demonstrate the fullness of God’s power.

When the disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, they received power just as Jesus had promised. – “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” (Acts 1:8) The distinct purpose of that outpouring was to empower them for ministry, to equip them for fulfilling the “Great Commission” This is a divine contract: “all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:18-19) “And these signs will follow those who believe, In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; …..they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” (Mark 16:17-19)

Jesus didn’t tell us He had all authority and power just for our interest or information. A wealthy man wouldn’t show a hungry beggar his bulging wallet just to walk away from him without giving him a single cent. Jesus told us of His power because all that He has is now available to His children, if ever a task needed miracle power, it is the task Jesus gave His Church.

God’s power is miracle power, and Christianity is a miracle movement from start to finish. As the early Apostles were obedient to God’s calling “many signs and wonders were done” through them (Acts 2:43) Later the sphere of miraculous ministry extended beyond the 12 Apostles to include Stephen, Philip, Barnabas and others. Although those who worked miracles had not asked specifically for the gift, miracle power was part of the package deal of the “Great Commission” and Pentecost. If they did what Jesus commanded, Jesus would do what He promised. That same power is still available to us today – it comes to us in the form of supernatural gifts through the Holy Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 12:1-11)

What kind of people is God’s miracle working power available to?
1. Those who are faithful in what God’s called them to do.
2. Those who are zealous for the gospel.
3. Those who are serving in situations where miracles are needed.
4. Those who are willing to obey the commands of Jesus Christ.
5. Those who have compassion for the suffering.

The age of the miraculous is still with us, until Jesus returns the gift of miracles will remain in the church. Let us continually seek the miracle giver. God bless
