While in Hong Kong recently Robyn & I had the opportunity to have lunch with Joshua Mills and his son Lincoln. They recounted a story of their recent trip to Easter Island. They had no reason to go there other than a prompting from God.

While there they went for a hike up one of the mountains and on the way Lincoln found 2 long sticks which they decided to use as staffs to help them climb. As they were moving up the mountain Lincoln said to his dad “I feel like Moses climbing the mountain—I wonder if there’s a rock I can strike and get some water out” ( just a Moses did in Exodus 17:) Joshua just laughed but a little while later realized he may be robbing his son of faith so he said “Lincoln, the next rock you see strike it with your staff” It wasn’t long and Lincoln found a rock as they were climbing back down the mountain. He took a swing and missed completely, he repeated this again and again and again. (this sounded strange as how can you miss a rock! – until we found out the rock was fairly small ) on the fifth attempt Lincoln connected … and water began to flow out of the rock!! All they could do was fall on their knees and worship God. What was the point of this event? I guess God just wanted to encourage them, remember they went with no specific invitation or reason, yet after this miraculous experience they met with numerous people and began to minister God’s grace and love to them. Why did Lincoln have five attempts at striking the rock. Five is the number of grace. The rest of their trip was one of grace filled ministry.

We should all expect greater God encounters, there is a river of heavenly life living in us waiting to flow out and touch the lives of those around us. John 7:38 says “whoever believes in me as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him, by this he meant the Holy Spirit” Let the river flow.
