Throughout the Bible we see a number of titles given to God. In plain English we have names such as Father, Lord, The Almighty. However in the original written languages of the Bible, Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek there is far more variety and meaning. Adonai, Abba, Pater, Alpha and Omega, El Elohim, Jehovah Raphe, El Chuwl, El Shaddai, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Shalom and Jehovah Nissi to name just a few. Each has its own specific meaning denoting the character, nature and attributes of God.
One such name is Jehovah Rohi, also written as YHWH (Yahweh) Rohi. It means the Lord is the Shepherd of Israel, or the Lord is my Shepherd. Psalm 23 is probably the most well know scripture of the Old Testament describing both the gentleness and protective power of God as shepherd. The Hebrew shepherd was known for leading his sheep rather than driving them from behind. However this required the sheep to learn to recognize the voice of their shepherd and to have confidence that he would protect and provide for them. That is the nature of Jehovah Rohi, our shepherd God. When we are thirsty, he leads us to quiet waters, when we feel threatened, he stands to protect us, when we feel afraid, he comes along side to comfort and strengthen, even when surrounded by enemies, he not only protects but provides all we need to enjoy life. In the words of John Newton in his classic hymn Amazing Grace “The Lord had promised good to me, His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures – Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come, His grace has brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home” No matter what we may face in life, God’s promise is Jehovah Rohi. I am your shepherd. Below is a portion of a prophetic word from Yvonne that speaks of God our shepherd. I trust it will be of encouragement to you.

“Do not confuse the rain with the valley of the shadow of death. You are not in a bad place, it is just a bit of rain. Don’t be afraid Freedom Life there is beauty in the storm you are in. The winds are blowing away what is not rooted deep and the rain washes away what is not needed. I have new life planned, your journey is far from over, but it is epic. Will you stop hiding in this pasture, the grass has been eaten and the stream has gone stale. Step out with me, trust me to lead you to new places Freedom Life. New places of joy, of hope and the thing your heart cries out for most, restoration. Restoration of people, restoration of finances, restoration of health and above all a restoration of the fire. No longer will you flicker in the wind. Step out with me and we will ignite this nation with an all consuming fire. Remember my ways are different to the world. Trust me to lead you well, I will give you the desires of your heart on my journey. Step out Freedom Life receive life and live free.”
