We looked recently at what the Holy Spirit did in us through his work of regeneration. Before Jesus came into our life, our spirit was dead to God, we were lost in sin and controlled from within by a sin nature. But when we asked Jesus into our life as Lord and Saviour, repenting of sin and putting our faith in the saving and transforming power of God, something dramatic happened within. We lost something, but we gained something far better

WE RECEIVED:

» Complete forgiveness so that we are at peace with God – 2 Cor 5:19; Col 2:13
» Complete acceptance as sons and daughters of God – Eph 1:6
» His righteousness, holiness and perfection – Rom 1:17; 1 Cor 1:3; Heb 10:14
» We don’t “act” to become holy because in Him we are holy.
» The life and mind of Christ – Col 3:4; 1 Cor 2:16
» His Spirit – Rom 8:11; Eph 1:13
» A renewed spirit which makes us into a new creation – 2 Cor 5:17
» A divine new nature – 2 Pet 1:4
» A living hope and an eternal inheritance – 1 Pet 1:3-4

WE LOST:
» Our old sin nature – Rom 6:3-7
» The old body of sin – Ps 103:12; Col 2:11-12; Rom 6:6 -not our physical body but the parasitic body of sin that had attached itself to us.
» Our inability to please God – Rom 8:8
» Our relationship to the Law – Rom 7:6
» Condemnation – Rom 8:1

The instant you were born again, God did an amazing work in your life. He gave you a glorious new past and a completely new life. He changed just about everything there is to change about you. But one thing God left unchanged was your mind, your way of thinking. Only you can change that. Our thought patterns are shaped by our past. So which past are you identifying with? Your old man history or your new man history?

Everything we need pertaining to life and godliness comes through our knowledge of Him who called us (2 Pet 1:13). If you want to see breakthrough in your life, look to Jesus, look to the cross, and change the way you think. Paul says in Rom 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Keep reminding yourself of who you now are, feed on the truths of what it means to be a regenerated, born again new creation. It will strengthen and empower you every day.
