Psalm 133:
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down upon the collar of his robes. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
Here King David writes of the wonderful promise of blessing in unity. God gives us a wonderful guarantee of blessing for our lives, for those who will live in unity, his promise is to pour out an abundance of blessing upon us. Unity begins with our union with God. All blessing flows from him, the bible speaks of the “River of God” that flows out from the Throne of God, everywhere that River flows life abounds. Jesus declared that when we receive him as Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us, releasing his life to us, that life is described in John 4; & John 7: as a well and a river. When we are in union with Jesus his river of life and blessing begins to flow through us.
However often there can be blockages to receiving the flow of his goodness into our lives. If we are not in unity within ourselves, we limit the River of God flowing through us. God’s love has been poured into our hearts ( Rom 5:5 ) it has come unconditionally—yet our reception of that love is often determined by how we feel about ourselves. When we learn to accept ourselves the way God has accepted us because of his grace toward us, we then position ourselves to receive all the benefits as a child of God. Unity with God, unity with yourself, and unity with each other is the avenue through which God will bless. As Christians we are all united with one another through Jesus, but we don’t always live in that unity. Un-forgiveness, bitterness, anger, strife, brings division that God cannot bless. These things are the direct plan of the devil to bring division, to dis-empower the Church and to undermine the true nature of every believer in Christ. As we submit our lives to God and to one another, putting aside any differences we may have, making every effort to maintain the bonds of peace ( Eph 4:2-3 ) then we lay the foundation for abundant blessing in our lives individually and corporately.
The Blessings that Flow from Unity:

▪ Salvations – Acts 2:41
▪ Devotion and Fellowship – Acts 2:42
▪ Miracles are Released – Acts 2:43
▪ Individual Needs are Met – Acts 2:44
▪ Release of Joy and Favour – Acts 2:46
▪ The Church Grows – Acts 2:47
▪ The Glory of God falls – 2 Chron 5:11-14
▪ Encouragement & Comfort – Phil 2:1-2
▪ Strength – Eccl 4:12
▪ Protection – Ps 91:1-7
▪ Fulfillment of Corporate Vision
▪ Stability and Security – Healing
May we live a life worthy of our calling—living in unity with God, ourselves and each other—and see the abundant blessing of God flood our lives and those around us.
