Many Christians begin each new year with a plan to read through the entire Bible over the course of that year. Some reach that goal, but most don’t. Then there are others who don’t even bother to read God’s Word at all. Last month I said that 2019 has the potential to be the best year of our life so far. To realize that requires a decision to apply Biblical truth, and live in the revelation that we are Children of God who can access the authority of Heaven in every situation, living and ministering as kings and priests, prophetically decreeing victory, increase, success and favour. However we can do none of that without faith, Romans 10:17 says “faith comes by hearing the Word of God” It’s the Word of God that stirs our faith and builds us up. Without it we remain faithless and immature. There is tremendous power in God’s Word. Here’s a few reasons why we should consistently read
the Word of God.

1. We get to Know God
We don’t want to be a people who have information about God – we want to know him intimately. God’s nature and Character are revealed to us through His Word.

2. We get to Understand God’s will and desires
The message of eternal salvation is a vital and dominant theme in Scripture, but the Bible reveals much more—including how God would have us live. He has a plan and purpose for our life and we can gain insight to it through the Word.

3. We are Nourished
We are what we eat. Paul’s prayer is that we grow and mature into Christ likeness, that growth requires healthy spiritual food. Never underestimate the power of the Word to feed you.

4. It gives us Discernment and Heaven’s Wisdom
There are 2 wisdom’s we can draw from –human or divine. We need heaven’s wisdom everyday. God’s Word cuts through the confusion to bring us clarity and revelation.

5. It guides us and instructs us in Righteousness
The Bible contains all the instruction that we need to come to a life of true purity and righteousness. It teaches us how we can follow Christ in truth.

6. It contains Power to overcome
God’s Word, is a weapon. It is a sword that gives us power and authority to overcome in the midst of temptation.

7. It’s full of God’s Promises
There are an almost infinite number of promises made to those who live according to God’s will. Are you livingly interested in these precious promises?

For the Month of February – I want to encourage us all to read together everyday through the Gospel of Matthew. One chapter per day for 28 days will have us read the entire book together. It’s a great way for us to progress as a community, everyone reading the same verses, everyone with the potential to hear God. I look forward to hearing what God says to you.
