We live in a Spiritual World, even if we’re not always aware of it. In fact the whole natural world that we live in was created from and out of the unseen spiritual realm. Jesus lived on this earth as a man, yet he lived with a constant awareness of the supernatural around him. “He only did what he saw the father doing” Jesus saw into the heavenlies and operated from that realm. Paul the Apostle, Stephen, John and others all saw into that realm and it radically changed their lives, their perspectives and their actions. When Jesus was arrested he stopped Peter from defending him saying Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly? After Jesus temptation
(Matt 4:11) he was refreshed and strengthened by angels.

The Bible mentions angels over 300 times, they are beings that have power and intelligence, they have authority and abilities and there is a vast number of them, John saw them in heaven and could not count them. Yet angels are not restricted to or confined to heaven. They have, at God’s command, access into this natural world. God revealed this truth to Jacob in Genesis 28 when he saw a ladder joining heaven and earth with angels ascending and descending. In Acts 5 & 12 we see angels involved in releasing Peter & John from prison. These visitations and activity however is not something that has been restricted to Bible times. Angels are real, they are not imaginary mystic beings, but are part of God’s creation and are as real as we are. Heb 13:2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

So what do angels do?
1. Serve God at His Throne
2. Serve as Messengers of God to man
3. Perform God’s Word and Will
4. Convey the Presence of God

When they come to earth they speak God’s message to us, bringing comfort, insight, and direction.

They protect us Psalm 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

They can prompt us, calm us, announce great things, they can release healing and minister to us. Hebrews 1:14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation.

We should take comfort and strength from the fact that God has surrounded us with his angelic beings (Psalm 34:7) As God opens our eyes may we see as Jesus did into that supernatural realm that is God.
